Plans Always Change in the Army!

Well, this post will probably be a bit boring because I don't have any pictures unfortunately.  I SHOULD have pictures because I got a disc in the mail today with our engagement photos...too bad the disc had a big crack in it and it won't work :o(   Needless to say I'm pretty bummed about that, I want to start using the pictures for wedding things!

Monday started off boring for us but we finally got off the couch and decided to do some things.  First we went to Highball Bowling Alley in Austin to do some bowling!  This is our second time going to this alley, and it has some charms.  It's basically a vintage bowling alley with only 6 lanes or so.  The lanes aren't what I'd call perfectly level and the balls aren't exactly smooth.  Also-no computerized score! We kept score with a pencil and a score sheet.  Mike gives me a hard time because sometimes I get mixed up on what to do with strikes and spares. He's amazed that I was in a league last year and can't keep score correctly.  I'm getting better though and it keeps your mental math abilities sharp while you're having a couple beers!  It really doesn't matter if I'm not the best with the score though because I am the better bowler! He probably wouldn't agree with this but I beat him in all three games we played.   Ohhhh ok maybe I can add some pics to this post:

After bowling we headed over to The Melting Pot - a fondue restaurant for those that are unfamiliar.  Normally I'd say the food is too expensive here and not really worth it, but we had a groupon to use for $40.  Nothing beats the chocolate fondue dessert there.  They give you little pieces of cheesecake, marshmallows, bananas, strawberries, rice crispie treats, pound cake and probably a few others. You dip it in liquid chocolate and it's so simple and delicious.

Tuesday Mike still didn't go back to work.  I guess he deserves a few days off after "3 weeks in Hell" at SF selection.  We watched the Discovery Channel documentary called "Two weeks in Hell" about the selection process.  It was made before they changed it to three weeks.  I got to see what Mike had to do at selection, and let me tell you it looked difficult.  If you're interested here is a link to it on you tube:

Discovery: Two Weeks in Hell

Tuesday night I did a little experimenting in the kitchen with a new recipe for French Onion Soup.  Not only was it a new recipe but also a new dish for me and Mike...neither of us has ever eaten it before.  I figured we'd like it though because we both like onions plus my friend Melissa loves it and she's kind of picky (sorry Lou!). It came out pretty good and we had a salad and some french bread with it of course.  Now the house still kind of smells like onions though...

After dinner Tuesday night we decided to watch the first episode of the FX show American Horror Story.  We found it OnDemand...honestly what did we do before these things existed!? I couldn't live without DVR!!  The show was very creepy and strange, but kind of interesting.  Not sure if we'll continue to watch it.

On to Wednesday (today).  Mike went into work but I don't think he did much work...he was home by 1pm with a burrito to eat for lunch. To be fair his entire squadron is on their month-long block leave after deployment. Mike will be using his leave days for the wedding/honeymoon and over the holidays.

The exciting news for today was that Mike got his orders changed and instead of Oklahoma we will now be moving to Ft. Benning in Georgia for his Captain's course. Since we knew he'd have to do an Airborne course at Benning for SF he decided to try to get his captain course moved there as well - less moving for us! Mike says being SF makes these sort of changes a lot easier for him since SF guys are prioritized.

I've already been searching for an apartment online and it is proving much easier and less depressing than finding a place in Lawton, OK.  The bad news is I submitted an application to be certified to teach in Oklahoma and paid $50 for it...now I've gotta go through all the red tape again for Georgia!! Anyway, now you know the reason for the title of this post!

Tonight I will be cooking Andalusian pork tenderloin for the second time.  We really liked it the first time I made it and I still had half of the tenderloin in the freezer.  I guess the marinade is what makes it "Andalusian." Basically i made a rub with olive oil, minced garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.  by 6:00pm it should be ready to go in the oven!  I'll steam some asparagus and make some mashed potatoes to go with it.  Oh and of course you can't have pork without applesauce as my mom and grandma would agree.

Who knows what we'll be doing tomorrow, Mike's not going into work so at least I'll have some company!  I do know that I'll be using Margaret's white chilli recipe for dinner - I'll be sure to let you know how it goes!
