No, we didn't do any pumpkin carving. Back when I had a job (teaching chemistry) I would do a Halloween demonstration where I would seemingly carve a perfect pumpkin via an explosion inside the pumpkin. In reality the night before I had carved 3 pumpkins, put the faces back in so they looked uncarved, and then use a flammable chemical reaction plus a spark to blow out the face of the pumpkin. The kids loved it; I hated it because I hated carving 3 pumpkins and I had to listen to the very loud explosion all day. SO moral of the story: I was not carving any pumpkins this year. I still like to look at them though :o)
Like the pretty candy dish?? Beautiful Beatriz Bell (alliteration anyone?) wedding gift given to us by Jon and Jessica when they had us over for dinner the other night. It's perfect for our coffee table because it's low enough so that it doesn't block the all-important television. I've been putting Mike's new favorite pretzel m&ms in there but they usually only last about a day. Now it holds that Halloween candy I mentioned earlier....also will probably only last about a day. The fact that the candy bars are "mini" only makes me feel like I can eat more!
Anyways, rewind a few days to last Thursday when Mike practically dragged me by the hair to the Audi dealership. Seriously, I was not feeling so well after the impromptu night out in Austin Wednesday night and the last thing I wanted to do was go look at cars. Mike has had it in his head that he wants an Audi A4 and wouldn't quit bugging me to go so we went.
At the dealership we were greeted by our salesman, Lane, who was a very mediocre salesman. For example, when we told him we wanted a pre-owned A4 that was a 2010 or 2011 he said something like "ok, I think I have a list of our pre-owned inventory that was printed on Saturday, let me go get it." First of all, Saturday was 5 days ago, he really couldn't get a newer version of the list? So Lane walks off and comes back with a folded up white piece of paper with a list of cars on it. He SLOWLY scanned the list and started to describe some of the choices to us. This just sounds weird doesn't it? Shouldn't this all be computerized?
So finally one of the car descriptions caught our attention and Lane went off to pull the car around for us. It was a 2010 A4 with about 23,000 miles on it and all the special features like navigation, rear camera, etc. There were two problems with the car in my book and I'll admit they were superficial problems but hey, I'm a girl and that's really the most important thing about a car in my book. First, the car was silver. Not only do I not really like silver cars but we already have one, Mike's Ford Escape! Second, the car did not have silver door handles, one of the only things I told Mike I wanted in a car.
Well, we took it for a test drive and it drove really nicely of course and we both really liked the car (except for those 2 problems of course). We asked Lane if there was something similar in black which there was, but it didn't have the nice features the silver one did and it was $3,000 more. We went back inside and filled out some forms so that we could run numbers and apply for financing in case we decided to get the car. Then we left to think about it.
Later that night both of us were researching other inventories online. I've always liked Acuras but neither of us really like the look of the TL, so I started looking for TSXs. I found a great looking one at the Acura dealership that was a good color (dark metallic gray), only had about 7,000 miles on it, had all the features like nav, rear camera, heated seats, had SILVER handles (!!) and was $4,000 cheaper than the A4 we liked.
To end this really drawn out story we headed to Acura the following morning, had a much better sales experience, drove the car, and decided to get it! Oh, I almost forgot: we were trading in my Chevy Trailblazer for the new car. Audi was only going to give us $2,000 for it while Acura was giving us $3,500. Just another reason why we were getting a better deal at Acura. Most of you have probably seen this on facebook but here is our beautiful new vehicle:
Everyone keeps asking us who will get to drive it. Probably Mike mostly. I don't really like to drive so when we go somewhere together he usually does. After buying the car that Friday I decided to break my rule of no cooking on the weekends and save a little money (hmm I wonder why??). I used a recipe I got from Margaret: White Chili. Mike was skeptical that I was using ground turkey and white beans, but he ended up loving it. We ate it for dinner Sunday too which makes it even better :o)
Last topic for the post: our "Halloween" night out in Austin on Saturday. Again, these pics were on facebook but I'll put them here too:
Mike and I had no clue what we were going to be but when we went out last Wednesday with Greg and Mark they mentioned that a few of them were going as Mario characters. We jumped on that bandwagon and went as Waluigi (Luigi's evil alter-ego) and Princess Peach. That night we hopped around a few of the sixth street area bars and had an overall good time. I actually felt pretty decent the next day too which is always a plus.
Way to go those of you who made it through this very long post!!
