Ya Mon! Jamaica!

2 days after the wedding Mike and I traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica for our honeymoon!  We stayed at Secrets St. James for 7 nights and it was a very fun and relaxing trip.  The only hiccup we encountered was actually getting there...we had a VERY long delay at O'Hare airport and unfortunately missed pretty much the entire first day in Jamaica.  Luckily our fabulous travel agent got us travel vouchers to use on a future trip to make up for this, and we will file a claim with the travel insurance we purchased to possibly get more compensation!

One of the first things we noticed in Jamaica was that the people there were SO friendly.  Granted, the only people we really interacted with were those who worked at the resort so of course it is their job to be friendly, but the staff was awesome.  We had perfect weather while we were there too.  I think it drizzled once for about 20 minutes one night but that's about it.  Not too hot either, it was about 80 degrees every day with a nice breeze.  Most of you probably saw the pics on facebook but here are some of my favorites:

We spent most of our days lounging by the pool or on the beach.  As you can see in the picture above we had a nice little swim up bar!  There was a little basketball hoop in our pool to where I spent some time beating Mike in "horse."  Seriously, I won every game.  In the afternoon we'd head back to our room to take a nice nap before dinner.  Oh yeah, and two of the days we were there they had a beer pong tournament at the pool.  The first time I played as Mike's partner even though I didn't particularly like the Red Stripe beer they had. It was actually really tough because it was windy out, but I made a cup in the first game and we won the tournament.  The next time Mike played with another partner and won the tourney again!

We had vouchers to use at the hotel to save some money so one day we used a voucher and got an 80 minute couples massage at the spa.  The cool thing about the spa was that before the actual massage we went through this "hydrotherapy" session which used different temperatures and pressures of water, it was very cool.  The massage was very relaxing too, I thought that 80 minutes might feel a little long since I've only ever had a 30 minute massage but it didn't, it went by fast!

The only thing we weren't crazy about at the resort was the food, but that's somewhat expected at many all-inclusive resorts.  They had about 6 different restaurants to choose from for dinner, and you didn't need reservations which was nice.  The restaurants all had different cuisines: Mexican, Italian, French, Asian, Jamaican, etc.  Since we had $10 vouchers for wine we bought a nice bottle to go with every dinner.

We spent most evenings after dinner watching whatever entertainment they had for the night followed by some drinks at the Piano bar.  The entertainment was usually pretty cool, they had a group of some pretty amazing dancers as well as a band that performed many of the nights.  One night we sat in the courtyard and watched "The King's Speech" which Mike hadn't seen yet, they even had popcorn!!

The piano bar was not a dueling piano bar it was basically one guy who came and played sing-a-long songs at the piano and everyone in the bar could yell out songs and sing.  The piano bar is also where we met most of our "friends" on the trip.  One night we decided to order "Mexican Dessert" shots with the people we were talking to.  Well instead of making us four shots the bartender decided he'd make shots for the entire bar to take! :

The trip was amazing and went by too fast!

Love,
Christine
