Hello all!
Today is a very special day. Six years ago on this day Mike and I
became a couple! Very exciting. This is how it went down: it was a
Saturday night in Champaign, IL and I had gone to an O.A.R. concert at
Assembly Hall with my roommate, Katie, and a couple of other friends.
When we got back to the dorm after the concert Mike wanted to stop by.
Turns out he had something to ask me..."Will you go out with me?" To
this day I tease him for using the junior high version of "will you be
my girlfriend?" It was sweet though, and the rest is history!
February 19, 2006 Our first date as an "official" couple:
I
wore my homecoming dress from junior year of high school (for some
reason I don't think it would still fit today...) and we went to the
Military Ball in Urbana. He's such a handsome guy, isn't he?
I
asked Mike if it was still okay to celebrate this anniversary even
though now we have a wedding anniversary. He said "sure." I bet most
of you can picture/hear him saying that in his slightly sarcastic tone
of voice. Anyway, I've got a romantic steak dinner planned for tonight
and Mike's valentine for today was extra-special. Speaking of Valentines...
...I know you're all desperate to see the recent valentines Mike has received....right? Those pictures will come after I force you to read about my week!
Recap of the week:
Tuesday I began to nanny for baby Nicole. I will be with her on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Nicole was born on October 20th!!! (Those of you who really love me will know the importance of that date). Nicole is a pretty good baby, not too fussy and she sleeps a lot.
On Friday I headed to Fort Benning with Jessica for a "Spouses Orientation" for MCCC. We sat at tables with the other wives that are in our small group or "seminar." Mike is in seminar 10 and there are 5 wives for that group. The nice thing about the orientation was that I talked to several wives who have been at Ft. Bragg in NC and they suggested some areas for us to look for housing.
Poor Mike has been fighting off a little cold so Friday night he wasn't up to leaving the apartment. We ordered some pizza and "camped" in our living room (we inflated the air mattress and watched TV). I have to say while the pizza here is definitely no Chicago pizza, it is much better than anything we found in Texas.
Saturday we headed out to Sam's Club to sign up for membership. There's not very much that I need to buy in bulk but I decided I'd like to start buying meat there as well as cereal, toilet paper, wine, etc. Plus, they had a perk for military members: a $15 gift card upon signing up. The membership fee is $40 a year, not too bad.
Saturday afternoon I decided to make a little valentine treat that I found (where else?) on pinterest:
They are called "Valentine Buttons" and they are delicious. At Christmas I made the rolo/pecan version of these.
We went to see "Safe House" with Denzel and Ryan Reynolds Saturday evening. It was pretty good, filled with action! After the movie we headed to the restaurant/bar that is closest to our place. It's called Mark's City Grill. They only serve beer and wine which is fine with me, and the food was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good.
And now, this week's valentines:
Day 7:
Day 8:
Day 9:
Day 10 (my favorite):
Day 11:
Today, Day 12 (our anniversary!):
As you've probably guessed we will be celebrating our evening with a little champagne!
Have a great Valentine's week everybody!
Love,
Christine
